Yesterday was an important moment for our country after it took over in Djibouti – in the presence of the Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias – and the on-board Command of Operation Shields of the E.U. in the Red Sea. In the ceremony held on the Italian destroyer ITS “ANDREA DORIA” the flag of the Operation was handed over by the Italian Rear Admiral Massimo Good to the Greek Commander-in-Chief Konstantinos Pitykakis PN.
Let us remind you that Greece already has the Land Command since the beginning of the Operation, with its Headquarters located in Larissa.
The greeting Dendias
“Our presence here today is of enormous importance. Not only for the defense of our shared values, but also for the powerful symbolism it embodies. It proves what Europe can achieve when we face common challenges with solidarity, unity and unwavering determination” said Mr. Dendias during his greeting at the ceremony.
The Greek Minister of Defense visited the port of Djibouti and the Frigate “Spetsai”, which participates in Operation Shields.
Dendia messages in every direction
Addressing the crew of the Frigate he sent messages in every direction.
“It is a moment that confirms the role that our Motherland wants to play. The role it wants to play in ensuring the safety of navigation and ensuring adherence to the principles of International Law and in particular the International Law of the Sea.
I don’t need to explain. You understand, each and every one of you, how important this is for our Homeland”, emphasized Mr. Dendias.
