The band led by Kurt Cobain arrived in Buenos Aires when he was at the height of success after recording ‘Nevermind’. Calamity Jane was a band of four music friends of Kurt Cobain that he expressly wanted them to play that night in Argentina. The problem came when the attending public booed the girl band non-stop. But they not only booed them, they also threw everything they found at them. The traumatized girls left the stage without even finishing their show. The public reaction did not like Kurt Cobain at all and when they went on stage, they made the more than 20,000 attendees pay for it. How? The truth is that Nirvana did it in an iconic way: they spent the whole concert pretending to play Smells Like Teen SpiritI started by playing the beginning of the song but they stopped and went to another song; songs also little known of the band. Did you play Smells Like Teen Spirit at the end? No! They left them wanting! Of course, Nirvana had a great time with his revenge.

What did Kurt Cobain say about his show in Buenos Aires with Calamity Jane? It was reflected in the book “Nirvana: The Chosen Rejects”, written by Kurt St. Thomas which includes personal interviews with Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl. “Krist, knowing my attitude about things like that, tried to convince me not to at least set me on fire or refuse to play. We ended up having fun, laughing at the audience. They didn’t realize we were protesting what they had done. We played for about 40 minutes and most of the songs were out of Incesticide so they didn’t recognize anything. We ended up playing ‘Endless, Nameless’ which is at the end of Nevermind and as we were so furious and so mad about this whole situation, that song and the whole set was one of the best experiences I had in my life. ”
