Asnawi and Faris Ramli like Martin Keown and Ruud van Nistelrooy

Jakarta

Action Asnawi Mangkualam to Singapore players compared to action Martin Keown. The former Arsenal player once provoked Ruud van Nistelrooy.

After Faris Ramli failed to execute a penalty kick for Singapore, Asnawi immediately approached and said something right in front of the Singapore player’s face. He indicated saying ‘thank you’ and touched Faris Ramli who was regretting his failure to score.

If Ramli’s penalty becomes a goal, Singapore is very likely to eliminate Indonesia from the AFF Cup. But his failure to maintain the hopes of the Garuda Squad, which later managed to win in the extra time of the 2020 AFF Cup semi-final second leg, Saturday (25/12).

Action Asnawi to Faris Ramli is not the first time this has happened in a high-tension football match. The 2003/2004 Premier League match between Manchester United Vs Arsenal, for example, was also colored by a similar action.

In the match at Old Trafford, Manchester, the Red Devils had a chance to win the match because they were awarded a penalty at the end of normal time. Ruud van Nistelrooy stepped up as an executioner, but his shot only hit the crossbar and the match between the two teams who were then fierce rivals in the Premier League ended in a 0-0 draw.

Arsenal’s Martin Keown at that time not only provoked, but also made physical contact with Nistelrooy by dropping his arm while jumping. This event is so memorable considering the drama, tension, and rivalry between the two clubs at that time.

The classic moment in the English League was remembered again when Asnawi did almost the same thing. Both Martin Keown (formerly) and Asnawi (last night) could not hide their joy at seeing opposing players fail to take advantage of opportunities to bring their team to victory in the final minutes of the match. From the white point anyway!

Interestingly, provocation Asnawi also attracted international attention. The compilation account of a collection of unsportsmanlike actions by footballers, @FootyRustling, also uploaded Asnawi’s video.
