It is almost always the software that has insufficient quality control before it is sent to the consumer. And once you have such a device, the software is quickly neglected because the latest product line takes up all of your attention.

In fact, tougher manufacturers should be tied to a maintenance obligation, but such a thing is difficult. I don’t agree with you that going back to dumb devices is the solution.

Imagine having a microwave with a rotary knob again, or a thermostat without a program and without measurements of the consumption. In fact, I have a robot vacuum cleaner that has been made dumber in terms of app for a year. It used to give periodic instructions for maintenance, and now the thing is often full or with worn-out parts because it was removed from the app.

And yes, in the beginning all these products have teething problems that have to be removed. Smart TVs were usually anything but smart until a few years ago. Sometimes heaps of misery crashing that were unpredictable or so inscrutable in terms of operation that you longed for the simplicity of an old-fashioned picture tube version.

But now most smart TVs are much faster, more stable and usually childishly simple despite (or because of) the underlying complexity.

The latest chip machines make smaller, more economical and more powerful chips with fewer raw materials. And of course, an old device with large resistors and switches is not always worse or ready for the environmental state, but with billions of inhabitants on this planet, these new machines make a big difference in the necessary raw materials for the equipment we want or need to buy.
