ASM Global wants to save San Siro: letter to Mayor Sala

The international company that organizes show events against plant demolition

The plans of those who would like to tear down the stadium get complicated Meazza to replace it with a new plant (the Cathedral) as part of a renovation that includes an area of 133 thousand square meters. There Global ASMAn international company that organizes entertainment events all over the world and directly manages hundreds of stadiums in five continents, has offered to take care of the historic and iconic Milanese stadium in first person. In a letter (that Sportmediaset publishes exclusively) and directed to Mayor Sala, ASM Global asked to meet with the municipal administration to find a solution that would allow not to demolish San Siro but “modernize it and at the same time prevent the Municipality of Milan from managing the plant directly”. This is a move that completely changes the cards on the table because in the document of the “Public Debate – Project Dossier” on the stadium we read: “… it is in fact foreseeable that there are no third parties who may have an interest in taking over the stadium. “. These claims are now completely denied by the ASM Global proposal.

The Sì Meazza committee, which fights for the protection of San Siro, now expects a detailed and short-term response from Mayor Sala.

The spokesperson of the Committee Luigi Corbani explains: “The proposal made by Inter and Milan with the Sala agreement is not a European solution. No stadium has ever been demolished and then rebuilt in cohabitation between two clubs. Take the example of Turin where there are two plants. Juventus has privately built its stadium and today Turin plays in the municipal one. Cohabitation is anti-historical. Like the incredible idea of reducing the capacity of the San Siro stadium which, incidentally, this year has an average spectator of more than 70 thousand admissions. The purpose of a municipal administration should be to broaden popular participation and not reduce it. I would like to know if anyone has contacted her Uefa to find out if, with the new volumes, finals of international events will still be assigned to Milan ”.

This is proof that before a private negotiation in Milan an international competition was needed on the future of San Siro.

THE LETTER TO THE ROOM
Dear Mr. Mayor,
I take the liberty of disturbing you after following in recent months the debate that arose in relation to the fate of the San Siro stadium (where, moreover, I was able to work from 1999 to 2006 on behalf of FC Internazionale as Stadium Operations Director and Safety Delegate). I still work in stadiums and arenas, as General Manager of the Italian branch of ASM GLOBAL (www.asmglobal.com), after having represented the same group in Brazil from 2013 to 2015, working on two of the stadiums of the FIFA Brazil 2014 World Cup. In recent months I have witnessed various debates and occasions for public discussion regarding the fate of the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in San Siro, in particular I was able to appreciate the attitude and spirit of those like Claudio Trotta, also on behalf of the “SiMeazza Committee ”, Tried to highlight the opportunity for the city of Milan to be able to modernize the historic plant, thus keeping it in operation.

Claudio Trotta, with whom we have been working for years in his activity as a promoter of musical events and more, has also been quoted on several occasions for having formulated proposals for the protection and development of the Meazza Stadium, and we have been talking with him for some time. of the possibilities that the San Siro structure can offer to broaden the social and popular enjoyment of sport, entertainment and entertainment in general, present and future, but within a modern management method. Recently, however, I also had the opportunity to read what is indicated in a document of the “Public Debate – Project Dossier”, where it is stated that:

“In fact, it is foreseeable that there are no third parties who may have an interest in taking over the management of the structure, considering the significant costs of use and maintenance that would not find a balanced economic result in any hypothetical revenues for events and initiatives other than high-level football professional and international “.

Obviously, I cannot be sure that this statement does not correspond to the real answer of some company possibly consulted by the person who drafted the document, but I am absolutely sure that this statement does not come from ASM GLOBAL; on the contrary, given the latest developments in the San Siro situation, our Company is ready to discuss with you the search for a solution that will allow the structure not to be demolished, to modernize it and at the same time avoid direct management of the plant by the Municipality of Milan.

With our proposal, strengthened by our specific expertise at world level, we would therefore try to enhance even more a stadium already famous in the world, and one of the symbols of industriousness, ingenuity and talents expressed, in almost a hundred years of history. sporting and cultural heritage of this now iconic place, from the city of Milan.

If what has been expressed so far could meet your interest and that of the Municipality of Milan, consider me as of now at your disposal for a first meeting that can better clarify who we are, what we do and what we would like to propose to the Administration of the City of Milan , detecting directly from the Municipality any other information in the case not in our possession today, to better frame the situation.

In this regard, I am pleased with the opportunity to attach to this communication a presentation, as short as possible, of the international activity of the Company and of the Group that I have the honor to represent today in my native country.

With warm cordiality,

GIUSEPPE RIZZELLO
General Manager, Italy
