Aslak Maurstad in ‘Shall we dance’: Impressive Performances Despite Chronic Disease

comments expresses the writer’s opinions.

As mentioned a number of times, I see myself as Norway’s biggest “Shall we dance” fan. This autumn I have been able to follow the program more closely than ever, as a commentator in Nettavisen.

At the very beginning, on August 25th to be precise, I made my prediction for the season.

There I guessed that Aslak Maurstad was going to be the second participant to quit the program – meaning that he was going to end up in 11th place.

It’s time to eat those words. It’s time to apologize. My prediction could hardly have been more wrong.

Aslak ends up in fourth place at least, but he can also go all the way to the top!

The worst part is that when I made my prediction, a colleague quickly asked if I really had so little faith in Aslak. I answered flatly yes, and think I remember that I added something about the fact that he couldn’t possibly be anything elegant on the dance floor.

Perhaps I should have listened more to my colleague and thought better of it.

Because if there is anyone who has really impressed this season, it is Aslak.

Of all the participants, he is the one who, overall, has entertained me the most, surprised me the most, impressed me the most – and awakened the most emotions in me. I’ve laughed, I’ve cried, I’ve chuckled, I’ve cheered.

Who knew he had all these amazing dance moves in him!?

At least not me, but now I know, and now I hope he goes all the way to the final. He deserves that.

In any case, it is not impossible that there will be a final at Aslak. The big question is: Can he win the whole thing? Aslak has probably won the viewers’ hearts anyway.

The background to my gloomy Aslak prediction was primarily that I had no faith that he could dance. I thought the only form of dance entertainment he could deliver was the kind where we laugh at bad skills.

Not only has he completely disproved this, but all the amazing performances he has delivered on the dance floor, he has delivered even though he has the chronic joint disease Bekhterev.

It is almost completely incomprehensible.

It’s just to take off the hat, and for my part: Eat the prediction, apologize and place myself in the corner of shame.

Aslak: I was wrong. Good luck with the quarter finals!
