The pictures of how the police in London yesterday handled the mourners who are remembered for killing Sarah Everard (33), have made the British look red.
Ed Davey, leader of the Liberal Democrats, is now asking London Police Chief Cressida Dick to consider his own position, reports Sky News.
– This was a violent tactical and moral mistake on the part of the police. ‘
Asks the police chief to explain himself
Labor leader Keir Starmer is also critical of the police’s handling during yesterday’s memorial service. He describes the scenes that took place in London as “deeply disturbing”.
“This was not the way to handle the demonstration,” Starmer said in a statement.
He is supported by party colleague Sadiq Khan, mayor of London. Khan states that he has been in contact with police chief Dick and asked for an explanation.
Dick has also been asked to account for yesterday’s incidents by Interior Minister Priti Patel, according to Sky News.
Hundreds gathered
Gruppa Reclaim These Streets canceled the official markings in memory of killed Everard (33), which should have taken place in several places in London yesterday.
The reason was the coronary restrictions.
Nevertheless, many hundreds of people showed up in Clapham in London, where Everard disappeared last week, to show his disgust after the murder. The London police were also present with a large presence, and asked the crowd to disband.
When the participants refused, the police used force to break up the marking. Photos and videos from the site show that several people were laid on the ground and handcuffed by force.
The police report in the morning hours on Sunday that they arrested four people.
Policeman charged with murder
Everard disappeared last week when she was on her way home after visiting a friend in the Clapham area.
Earlier this week, the remains of a person were found in Kent, southeast of the capital London, and a 48-year-old policeman was arrested, suspected of having something to do with the crime.
On Friday, police confirmed that the remains belonged to Everard, and that the 33-year-old had been killed.
The 48-year-old police officer has now been remanded in custody and charged with abducting and killing Everard.
