Two games, six points – neo-head coach Willi Wahlmüller made a perfect debut at ASKÖ DONAU Linz. After the two wins against Viktoria Marchtrenk and at ASKÖ Schwertberg, the Kleinmünchners now want to continue this record and are aiming for a complete success in the Halloween home game on Thursday (7 p.m.) against SPG St. Florian/Niederneukirchen.
Wahlmüller spent two terms with the upcoming opponent; from 2009 to 2014 and in the 2022/23 season, the current DONAU coach was on the sidelines for the Florians. “Of course I know a lot of people there, I also know the team well, it’s a special game. Nevertheless, this is only about three points. We are playing at home and want to win the game,” the 57-year-old made clear.
While the blue-yellow are still at the top of the table after three wins in a row, SPG St. Florian/Niederneukirchen, at the bottom of the league, is still waiting for their first full success of the current season. The people of the Danube are only too aware that this image can be deceptive. “We won’t let ourselves be blinded by the table. St. Florian has so far been undervalued. We definitely have to go into the game with full concentration and conviction,” Wahlmüller warned of the Obermüller team. The two duels last season both went to ASKÖ DONAU: at the beginning of June, the Kleinmünchners celebrated a 3-1 away win, the first half of the season ended with a 6-0 win for the blue and yellow.
“Great appreciation”
Wahlmüller looks back on the first two weeks of his term in office at ASKÖ DONAU Linz in a consistently positive manner. “The team is pulling its weight,” said the UEFA A license holder, who was able to celebrate two victories with his new team with the 1-0 against Viktoria Marchtrenk and the clear 4-0 in Schwertberg. Last week, Yusuf Efendioglu scored a triple pack in 46 minutes, with Julian Peherstorfer contributing the fourth goal. “We implemented a lot of what we set out to do. “We had to remain patient against Marchtrenk, and against Schwertberg we took advantage of our opponents’ mistakes,” analyzed Wahlmüller, who was particularly pleased by one thing: “We kept a clean sheet in both games, which is also very positive.”
The 57-year-old felt like he was in good hands at the club right from the start. “A big compliment to those in charge, they welcomed me very well and showed me great appreciation.” The squad is also very good quality, although there are currently a few absences. The route for the remaining two games against St. Florian/Niederneukirchen and a little more than a week later for the autumn finish at SV Traun is clear: “We want to get as many points as possible, ideally the maximum,” emphasized head coach Wahlmüller .
