"Askeer Awards 2023: Winners and Highlights at Bulgarian Theater's Biggest Night"

The “Askeer” awards were presented tonight for the 32nd time at the “Bulgarian Army” theater. Awards for achievements in theater art during the past season are awarded by “Askere Academy”.

Two performances received two statuettes each. “Antigone” by Jean Anouy at the Pleven theater “Ivan Radoev” was awarded for the direction of Alexander Morfov and for the best performance, BTA reported.

Maria Kavardzhikova was awarded the best supporting role for women – for Magdalena in “Parts of a Woman” by Kata Weber (National Theater)

For contemporary Bulgarian drama, Yana Borisova was awarded for “A Place Called Elsewhere” in “Teatro”.

For the leading female role, the award went to Svetlana Yancheva – for the role of Winnie in “Oh, happy days” by Samuel Beckett in “Sfumato”, and for the leading male role – Vladimir Penev for the role of pop Krastyo in “Easter Wine” by Konstantin Iliev (National Theatre).

The prize for a one-man show is for “Ignorance” by Albena Stavreva (consultant – Yavor Gurdev, director – Albena Stavreva, scenographer – Albena Stavreva, music – Mira Iskarova, sound design – Julian Stoichkov, with the participation of Albena Stavreva, National Theater).

The statuette for scenography is the nominations for Marieta Golomehova for “Don Quixote” by Miguel de Cervantes at the Youth Theater), for costume design – Nicole Trendafilova for “Leons and Lena” by Georg Buchner at the Yalta Art Room, for theater music – Milen Kukosharov for “Three sisters” in the theater “Vazrazhdane”.

As it was announced earlier, set designer Prof. Slavi Kokalov received the grand prize for overall contribution to theater art, and actress Elena Raynova received an honorary “Askeer” for creative honor and contribution to the development of theater art.

Tonight’s ceremony was entrusted to director Boris Radev, scenography and costumes – Nina Pashova, music and music producer – Dobrin Vekilov-Doni, choreography – Angelina Gavrilova. Traditionally, the event is under the patronage of the Ministers of Culture and Defense.
