Asked Frequently Abstaining About the War in Ukraine, This Is India’s Shocking Answer

NEW YORK – Permanent Representative India at the United Nations, TS Trimurti, lashed out at a Dutch diplomat who suggested that New Delhi should not abstain from voting in United Nations General Assembly regarding matters relating to the ongoing conflict in the Ukraine .

“Please don’t patronize us, Ambassador. We know what we have to do,” Tirumurti responded to a sharp comment from Karel van Oosterom, the Dutch Ambassador to the UK as quoted from SputnikFriday (6/5/2022).

The response came after the Dutch envoy responded to a Tirumurti social media post, in which the Permanent Representative of India had shared his remarks at the debate. United Nations Security Council about Ukraine on Thursday.

“You should not abstain in the General Assembly. Respect the UN Charter,” said van Oosterom.

At the UNSC debate on Ukraine on Thursday, Tirumurti reiterated New Delhi’s stance on the need for an immediate end to hostilities in Ukraine and a return to diplomacy.

“India remains on the side of peace and therefore believes that neither side will be victorious in this conflict and while those affected by this conflict will continue to suffer, diplomacy will be the eternal victim,” the Indian diplomat said in a statement.

Tirumurti also explained New Delhi’s concerns about the destabilizing effects of the Ukraine conflict on global oil prices as well as grain and fertilizer shortages.

“This (conflict) has a disproportionate impact on the Global South and developing countries,” he said.
