Ask the Consul – Presidential Proclamation on Migration

The President’s entry limitation applies to visa applicants who: a) Are outside the United States on April 23, 2020; b) They do not have an immigrant visa that is valid on April 23, 2020; and c) They do not have an official travel document other than a visa (such as a transport letter, a boarding pass, or an advance parole document) that is valid on April 23, 2020 or that was issued on any date. later and allow them to travel to the United States and apply for entry or admission.

Therefore, if you are a legal permanent resident of the United States or have a valid immigrant visa in your passport, you can still enter the United States. Please note that your visa is only valid until the indicated expiration date.

The proclamation does not apply to you if you fall into the following categories:

· Applicants who are spouses of US citizens;

· Applicants who are the children of US citizens and under the age of 21, including adoptees and adoption candidates seeking to finalize their adoption process in the United States;

· Members of the United States Armed Forces and their spouses and children.

The proclamation went into effect on April 23, 2020 and expires on June 22, 2020, unless the president maintains it.
