Maximou is in a panic regarding the case of the leakage of personal data of Greeks abroad that led Anna Michele Asimakopoulou out of the blue European ballot, as tomorrow the Personal Data Protection Authority will meet again, which in its last decision had stated that from content of the new data, “there is a need to further investigate the claims presented in them, in view of the conflicting claims of the audited regarding whether the considered processing of personal data took place to achieve the purposes and means determined by the ND through its executives in the context exercising their powers or by the latter as natural persons”.
In particular, the claim of the former secretary of the expatriates of the New Democracy Nikos Theodoropoulos about “orders from above” has created new facts in this huge scandal, since as he argued in the APDPH “he never received from any associate of the former G.G. of the Ministry of the Interior (YPES), Michalis Stavrianoudakis” and “never received from a former or current official of the Ministry of the Interior, the file of electoral lists of the emigrants of 2023”. In fact, the former expatriate secretary of the blue party, as mentioned in the latest decision of the competent authority, said that “the person from whom he received the electoral lists on 06-23-2023, at 17:05 via a forwarded WhatsApp message, was and remains an Organ of of the party’s Central Administration, based on the latest ND Statute, a competent official who had access to the electoral rolls for the national elections of May and June 2023”.
As noted in the APDPH announcement “from the documentation provided by ND, with his electronic message dated 12-06-2024 to the Data Protection Officer (DPO) of ND, which was presented to the Authority, Mr. Theodoropoulos attached a photo showing the full phone number of the sender of the WhatsApp file and stating, among other things, that the sender was and remains an Organ of the Party’s Central Command as the Party’s Organizing Secretary and Crisis Management Officer.” This is Menios Koromilas, who was the Party’s organizational secretary and Crisis Management Officer.
In the ND’s response to the competent authority, it is stated that “Menios Koromilas stated, among other things, that in a telephone conversation the then Secretary General of the Ministry of the Interior, Mr. Michalis Stavrianoudakis, asked him to forward to Mr. Theodoropoulos a file that would be sent to him via WhatsApp by an associate that he forwarded to Mr. Theodoropoulos the excel file, which was sent to him via WhatsApp from an unknown number at that number, without himself having knowledge of the contents of the file or of its possible use and that due to his party status he did not have never sought access to electoral rolls or any personal data of citizens”.
At the same time, Menios Koromilas, as stated in the latest announcement of the Personal Data Protection Authority, claims “that he does not have in his possession the file in question because in the meantime he changed his mobile phone device and that due to his party status he did not and never sought access to electoral rolls or personal data of citizens”.
Marinakis: What matters is “what is proven”
The pervasive embarrassment of the government representative when asked at the political editors’ briefing (5/7) about Nikos Theodoropoulos’ claim of “order from above” is not accidental. Then, to a related question from Documentonews, Pavlos Marinakis said that there is “absolutely no order. And in fact, if someone knows some facts and this does not only concern me, it also concerns all the others who had a position in New Democracy, they can understand why there cannot be such an order. And in fact, in this particular case, the competent authority has also carried out checks on the relevant offices of New Democracy, the computers, the systems it has. I don’t think it could have been more scrutinized. Every citizen and natural person involved in a case can say what they want, they are evaluated. What matters is what is proven from there and beyond that I tell you categorically that there was no such order.”
