SEOUL (Reuters) – The doors of an Asiana Airlines flight flying from Jeju Island in South Korea to Daegu opened just before landing on Saturday. Authorities said they had detained the man who allegedly opened the door.

According to Daegu fire department officials, no one was injured, but nine teenage passengers suffered from hyperventilation and were taken to the hospital.

South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism announced that the man who opened the door was taken into custody by the police and is being investigated for violating the Air Safety Act. It is unclear why the man opened the door.

A ministry official told Reuters authorities were investigating whether Asiana Airlines followed emergency exit control procedures.

A spokesperson for Asiana Airlines said that a male passenger sitting near the emergency exit opened the door when the flight was about to land in a few minutes. He said the door opened at a height of about 200 meters above the ground.
