Ashraf Ismail, Creative Director of Black Flag or Valhalla, fired from Ubisoft / CD-Action

Ashraf Ismail is well known to fans of the series. The developer was the creative director of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag and Origins. He played the same role in the production of Valhalla, becoming one of the faces of the game shortly after its announcement. However, he quickly left the band in an atmosphere of scandal.

Ismail himself cited the requirement to deal with personal problems – and although he did not specify exactly what it was about, it was known that the reason for the decision was the disclosure of his infidelity towards his wife, as well as hiding his marriage from picked-up women (including at least one fan of the series, who later publicly accused him of it ). Ubisoft cut the rumors, only informing that the creator went on a longer vacation, but the matter turned out to be more complex.

Following the publisher’s recent harassment and employee treatment issues an investigation was launched in the company, as a result of which he said goodbye to work some high-profile names. As Kotaku had learned, Ismail was now among them as well. In an email to employees, the company announced that:

Following an external investigation, it was found that Ashraf’s employment with Ubisoft must be terminated. We cannot provide any details of this confidential investigation.

The official reasons are unlikely to be known, unless one of the parties discloses them.
