Asháninka leaders are unaware of the Ministry’s statement on the capture of the alleged murderer of Santiago Contoricón

AYACUCHO. Yesterday, at 9:18 pm, through a statement from the Ministry of the Interior (Mininter) it was reported that police officers captured one of the alleged perpetrators of the murder of the Asháninka leader Santiago Contoricón, riddled with bullets on April 8 in his house located in the community of Puerto Ocopa, in the province of Satipo, Junín region.

On this, Fabián Antúnez, president of the Central Asháninka De Río Tambo (CART) has indicated to Inforegion that, so far, the owners, managers and indigenous leaders of the area have not received any official information from the authorities, regarding to the police operation. “We don’t know anything,” he confirmed.

Along these lines, the president of the Asháninka Central of the Ene Basin (CARE), Ángel Pedro Valerio, an authority who has been accompanying the measures to fight his Asháninka brothers from Río Tambo, reaffirmed what Antúnez maintained in a sustained dialogue with this half. “Officially, nothing has been reported to us, only in the media is that coming out,” he added.

The statement issued by the Ministry mentions that the suspect has been identified as Ronal Pozo Huamán, 26 years old, who was arrested when he was traveling along Alianza para Progreso avenue, in the Ayna district, in the Ayacuchana province of La Mar, as part of the intelligence actions of the Vraem Police Front and the special investigation team of the Homicide Investigation Department of the PNP.

Likewise, the authorities indicated that the suspect for the crime of assassination had the intention of fleeing from Ayacucho to Cusco, and has an arrest warrant issued by the Satipo-Junín Preparatory Investigation Court.
