The co-chairman of “We continue the change” Asen Vassilev stated that the measures taken by the government, in which he was finance minister, “did not raise inflation, and this is claimed by people who “studied economics for one semester”. This is how he responded to accusations that raising incomes during their administration has fueled inflation, in the BNT studio.
When asked if he had raised the salaries of the teachers, whom he reminded that years ago they were poor and walked around in torn pantyhose, he said:
“I didn’t remind the teachers of this, I reminded the politicians who, with the extended budget law, refused to vote on our proposal to keep salaries at 125% of the average salary and froze the teachers’ income. I want to apologize to the teachers if they felt affected, but the truth is that for too long Bulgarian education and Bulgarian teachers were the last priority of this country when they were left on minimum wages,” he said.
“The truth is that if we don’t take care of the teachers, there will be no workforce in the future and this will really lead to the bankruptcy of the state,” he also said, commenting on the non-increase in teachers’ salaries, which, according to him, was the fault of GERB.

The cabinet must request the convergent report on joining the euro, Vassilev is categorical. According to him, the report will come out at the end of June and while they are writing it, there will be time to adopt the three laws that have not been adopted. As for the other criteria – “we do not fulfill only the inflation criterion”. According to Vasilev, inflation is starting to decrease.
“What they can write – you don’t fulfill three laws and the inflation criterion. Let’s not give up on this goal and fulfill it – it’s quite normal to happen,” he said.
He recalled that Croatia’s admission to the Eurozone was achieved with compromises, including the inflation criterion.

Asen Vasilev defined as “the most cynical” the statement that during the administration of the “Petkov” cabinet the migrant channels were reopened, saying that before their government came to power “Captain Andreevo was a private border” and now the caretaker government it has returned to the old situation again.
