Asen Hristov, CEZ: Electricity will not stop because of the moratorium, but the service will deteriorate

– If the ERPs are not compensated for the moratorium within a week, it will be too late in January, he says the head of CEZ’s Supervisory Board

– Currently, the losses of ERPs and ESO are BGN 250 million.

“There will be no reduction in electricity supply due to the moratorium on electricity prices, but the quality of service will deteriorate as we begin to limit costs and reduce our investment in the system, which means more accidents. Tomorrow, if we have to pay a company for the replacement of poles, we will delay its payment, “said the chairman of the Supervisory Board of CEZ Asen Hristov to bTV.

“If the state does not find a mechanism to compensate the energy distribution companies within the next week, it will be too late in January,” Hristov said.

“What is the electricity system in Bulgaria?” Manufacturers, consumers, and in the middle of the system are suppliers. It is accepted along the chain that we lose 7.5% of the purchased electricity, at the moment we buy it between BGN 500 and 600 per megawatt-hour, and they pay us BGN 130. This is the law. “Once a year, the EWRC, usually on July 1, raises prices slightly and we compensate for last year’s losses,” Hristov said.

“In a situation of a large jump in prices, as it is now, the law provides for the EWRC to change prices every six months. Currently, the losses of ERPs and ESO are BGN 250 million, of which BGN 70 million are for CEZ alone. We waited because the EWRC was preparing to make prices from January 1, which would at least stop the losses, “Hristov added.
