Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiago Uno spoke during the second panel discussion of the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit 2023 at the Sultan Hotel in Jakarta on Sunday (September 3).
Connectivity is needed to realize the vision of ASEAN as a single destination, Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno said.
The concept of ASEAN as a single destination must Supported by connectivity in terms of air flights and more ferries linking Riau Islands with Singapore and Malaysia.
As the rotating chair of ASEAN in 2023, Indonesia is in line with the spirit of the G20 as a transformational agent centered on community tourism, promoting the image of ASEAN as a single tourism destination.
Sandiago said this vision was launched at the ASEAN Tourism Forum in January 2023 and strengthened through Indonesia’s membership in the Executive Council of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). Sandiago said he continued to push for more flights to support connectivity between Asean and some of Indonesia’s major tourist destinations.
Sandiago said, “We want to have more flights. I just came back from Belitung. There are no direct flights to Belitung. This has to be increased. We also have to connect Labuan Bajo with Bangkok. , Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and we will add the number of flights and the number of available seats in the next 2 or 3 months.
Sandiago admitted that the demand for flights to various destinations in Indonesia is quite high, but the number of flights is still limited. I’m working with the Secretary of Transportation to increase the number of flights and the number of available seats on airlines.
Sandiago said that discussions with the Minister of Transportation are in the final stage, and he hopes to have good news about the additional flights before the end of the year. (pl)
