ASEAN-Indo Pacific Forum 2023: A Platform for Global Leaders and CEOs to Discuss Cooperation and Investment in Green and Digital Sectors

Jakarta

The government will hold the ASEAN-Indo Pacific Forum (AIPF) on September 5-6 2023, as part of the 2023 ASEAN Summits series of events. The plan is for this event to gather a number of world leaders to CEOs.

The Director of the Foreign Service School (SEKDILU) of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lintang Paramitasari Parnohadiningrat said, AIPF would become a forum for public private dialogue, in which a number of issues would be discussed by involving multinational players, including a number of global CEOs. One of the goals is to discuss the potential for cooperation.

“Discussing potential, how to deal with challenges, and everything must also be supported by efforts to strengthen financing so that we can realize ASEAN as the epicenter of growth,” he said, in the detik Pagi event, quoted Monday (4/9/2023).

The woman who is familiarly called Mita said, in parallel, her party is also facilitating several companies that have long been drafting plans for cooperation and are currently in the discussion stage to sign an agreement. Apart from that, this forum is also encouraged to create new collaborations.

“There are also efforts to collect concrete derbbles. So we are gathering these ASEAN countries to jointly promote investment on issues related to infrastructure, especially green infrastructure and digitalization. Later we will also open up opportunities for business match making and also to be able to ensure there are concrete results from this activity,” said Mita.

He further explained, through this event there are three main issues that will be discussed. These issues include green infrastructure and resilient supply chain, digital transformation and digital economy, as well as sustainable and innovative financing.

Mita also explained the reasons why these three issues became the subject of discussion. First, in order to encourage investment in the green sector in ASEAN. Green investment in ASEAN alone has now reached US$ 5.2 billion, and US$ 1.5 billion is still needed to achieve the emission reduction targets listed in the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

“Meanwhile, for the ASEAN digital economy, it is projected to reach US$ 1 trillion in gross merchandise value (GMV) in 2023. Therefore, commitment and efforts need to be strengthened in ASEAN to be able to realize more opportunities for digital players,” he continued.

Meanwhile, at the ASEAN Summit itself, continued Mita, the ASEAN Digital Economic Framework Agreement will be discussed, which will begin negotiations at the end of 2023. Not only that, there will also be discussions related to the formation of the Electric Vehicle (EV) ecosystem.

“In this case the ASEAN leaders also discussed an idea how ASEAN could become a global production hub for EV and also encourage energy transition. The document that will come out at the Summit is the ASEAN Leaders Declaration on Developing Regional Electric Vehicle Ecosystem. These discussions need to be grounded so that the private sector is more aware and they also contribute to the various commitments that occurred at the Summit,” he concluded.
