TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – ASEAN – European Union (AEHEF), held education Exhibition virtual high on Saturday 6 August 2022. This activity was held as part of the grand celebration of the 45th anniversary of dialogue relations between the two countries.
Director of Human Development, Department of ASEAN Socio-Cultural Communities, ASEAN Secretariat Ms Rodora T. Babaran said the Secretariat ASEAN proud to collaborate with the European Union as it is in line with the launch of the ASEAN Higher Education Space Roadmap 2025 and its implementation plan. “We envision a strong and sustainable ASEAN Higher Education Space, which will allow harmonization and internationalization of the higher education system in the region,” said Rodora in a press statement received by Tempo on August 4, 2022.
Chargé d’Affaires, ai, Permanent Mission of the Philippines to ASEAN, and Country Coordinator for ASEAN-EU Dialogue Relations Elizabeth Te added that her team thanked the European Union for its commitment to strengthening and supporting higher education in ASEAN and contributing to the development of the ASEAN Community. “We encourage students and young people to seek learning and training opportunities both in ASEAN and in the member states of the European Union. Studying abroad will broaden our perspective, and change the way we see the world,” he said.
He reminded of the words that had been given by former South African President Nelson Mandela. “’Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world’. We invite you, our future leaders, to deepen your knowledge to make our world a better place,” he said.
Ambassador European Union for ASEAN Igor Driesmans said, 2022 is indeed very special for all of us. The European Commission has designated 2022 as the European Year of Youth. This year, we also commemorate 35 years of the Erasmus program (EU-funded higher education program) and 45 years of the EU-ASEAN Dialogue Relations. “Higher education and students have always been an important element in our relationship with ASEAN. They play an important role in the future of our two regions. Through this virtual higher education exhibition, we can spread the word about EU and ASEAN study opportunities to more students and academics from all over ASEAN,” he said.
In ASEAN, education plays an important role in promoting regional integration, sustainable development and prosperity. AEHEF will contribute to ASEAN’s efforts to promote educational equality, access to higher education, and intra-regional mobility among students and researchers. This demonstrates ASEAN’s strategy to make education relevant and effective for all citizens through various collaborative initiatives.

The ASEAN-EU 2022 Higher Education Exhibition will be held virtually on Saturday, August 6, 2022, from 09.30-18.00 (GMT+7). This exhibition is a gateway to higher education and academic career development opportunities in Europe and Southeast Asia for students, researchers and academic institutions.
There are 120 campuses participating in this exhibition. Some of them are Ecole Ferrieres – Hospitality, Gastronomy, and Luxury (France), Bandung Institute of Technology (Indonesia), National University of Singapore (NUS), University of Groningen (Netherlands), University College Dublin, University of Sopron, University of Latvia. and Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNUHCM).
