Soonchunhyang University is working to strengthen the SW education ecosystem in the region by successfully carrying out a SW value expansion project centered on Asan Middle School with the goal of developing regional education and nurturing software talent.
Soonchunhyang University’s program to create a prestigious software middle school contributed to developing creative problem-solving and collaboration capabilities by providing an environment where students could plan and implement SW projects. As a result, students’ interest in software-related careers has also increased significantly.
In particular, as a result of joint research conducted by college students and middle school students, two papers were published in the KCI-registered journal of the Korea Computer Information Society. This thesis was completed by conducting research tasks such as data collection and AI model training through 50 hours of mentoring through 1:1 matching between Asan Middle School students and university mentors under the supervision of the Soonchunhyang University SW Centered University Project Group.
Yongseon Lee of the Department of AI and Big Data and Hyunsoo Jo of Asan Middle School developed an AI model to detect Varroa mites, the main cause of honey bee colony collapse. They proposed a non-destructive two-stage pest inspection framework, and the research results were published in the Korea Computer Information Society KCI Paper Volume 29, No. 10 on October 27.
In addition, Jaehyuk Cho from the Department of AI and Big Data and Yunho Shin from Asan Middle School conducted research using Mars weather data and analyzed the impact of activation functions and attention mechanisms on time series model performance. The study was also published in the same journal.
