Asan Middle School in South Chungcheong Province emerges as a prestigious middle school with SW support from Soonchunhyang University: #NewsChungcheongin… Chungcheong region comprehensive online newspaper

[뉴스충청인/아산] Asan Middle School has grown into a prestigious school for software (SW) education with the support of Soonchunhyang University (President Seungwoo Kim). Soonchunhyang University is working to strengthen the SW education ecosystem in the region by successfully carrying out a SW value expansion project centered on Asan Middle School with the goal of developing regional education and nurturing software talent.

Soonchunhyang University’s program to create a prestigious software middle school contributed to developing creative problem-solving and collaboration capabilities by providing an environment where students could plan and implement SW projects. As a result, students’ interest in software-related careers has also increased significantly.

In particular, as a result of joint research conducted by college students and middle school students, two papers were published in the KCI-registered journal of the Korea Computer Information Society. This thesis was completed by conducting research tasks such as data collection and AI model training through 50 hours of mentoring through 1:1 matching between Asan Middle School students and university mentors under the supervision of the Soonchunhyang University SW Centered University Project Group.

Yongseon Lee of the Department of AI and Big Data and Hyunsoo Jo of Asan Middle School developed an AI model to detect Varroa mites, the main cause of honey bee colony collapse. They proposed a non-destructive two-stage pest inspection framework, and the research results were published in the Korea Computer Information Society KCI Paper Volume 29, No. 10 on October 27.

In addition, Jaehyuk Cho from the Department of AI and Big Data and Yunho Shin from Asan Middle School conducted research using Mars weather data and analyzed the impact of activation functions and attention mechanisms on time series model performance. The study was also published in the same journal.

Jeon Chang-wan, head of the SW Centered University Project at Soonchunhyang University, said, “Asan Middle School’s establishment as a prestigious SW school is an important example of contributing to the development of the local education ecosystem and technology beyond the development of just one school.” He added, “We will continue to provide SW education to more schools in the region in the future.” “We will expand and actively support students so that they can acquire the capabilities necessary for future society.”

Kim Bo-young, a teacher at Asan Middle School, said, “Thanks to Soonchunhyang University’s systematic SW education support, students were able to develop interest and confidence in future cutting-edge technologies. As these programs continue, more students will have the opportunity to challenge cutting-edge technologies.” “I hope you get it,” he said.

Asan Middle School is a prestigious SW school and has become a benchmark for other middle schools and educational institutions in the region, and is building a leading model of SW education through cooperation with Soonchunhyang University.

Meanwhile, Soonchunhyang University’s SW-centered university project team, which is carrying out projects with the support of the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea IT Planning and Evaluation Institute, supports after-school SW activities, programming tool Scratch education, and C language to increase interest in SW and spread its value in the region. We operate various SW experience programs such as and IoT device development training.
