ASAE makes seizures for clandestine slaughter in Vila Pouca de Aguiar

“The action resulted in the initiation of two criminal proceedings for clandestine slaughter, with the seizure of 15 lamb carcasses, 15 skins, various documentary evidence, as well as various cutting utensils used for the illicit practice, all for a global value of 1,610.00 euros”, advanced, in a statement, ASAE.

The seizures took place within the scope of an operation to inspect clandestine slaughter in the municipalities of Marco de Canaveses and Vila Pouca de Aguiar, in which three vehicles were intercepted leaving suspicious locations.

The authority verified the transport of lamb carcasses, having subsequently inspected the places where the animals were used, where “several traces of the practice of slaughtering animals outside the legally authorized places” were detected.

Three individuals were also constituted as defendants, who were subject to an identity and residence term.

The carcasses found were classified, by an expert appointed by the Public Ministry, as category M2 by-products (moderate risk), “having proceeded to forwarding them accordingly”.

According to the same note, the actions resulted in the dismantling of two legal areas where, “illicitly, camouflaged and without thermal, functional and hygienic conditions”, the slaughter of lambs was carried out.

The animals had also not been subject to sanitary inspection to detect diseases.

“ASAE will continue to carry out inspection actions, within the scope of its competences, throughout the national territory, in favor of healthy and fair competition between economic operators, in the safeguarding of food safety and public health of consumers”, he underlined.
