The Franco-Nigerian singer Asa releases a new album soberly titled V : this is his fifth album. This singer-songwriter – considered one of the great African voices – reconnects with her Yoruba roots.

It was in 2007 that Asa’s first album was released and it was a real tidal wave. Record sales and a coveted prize: the Constantin prize, which at the time distinguished the musical revelation of the year.

Since then, Asa has toured all over the world, with his music tinged with folk and reggae. Five albums later, here she is putting her voice on arrangements at the crossroads of pop, soul and afrobeat. A kind of homecoming for her, especially with the song Mayanwhich opens the disk.

Asa, whose real name is Bukola Elimide was born in Paris in 1982. She grew up in Lagos where she still lives. This new disc, of which she signed words and music, was entirely written and recorded in Nigeria, in the midst of a pandemic. It was produced by a young Nigerian prodigy, author, composer, musician who goes by the name of P. Priime and is only 20 years old, but he is already considered one of the torchbearers of Afrobeat culture.
