As the weather warms, home heating bills for Gargždi and Klaipėda residents decrease

“Klaipėdos energija” has already prepared bills for heating for the month of February, which will soon reach the residents of Klaipėda and Gargžda. Due to probably the warmest February in recent times and a shorter month, heat consumption also decreased.

Compared to the same period last year, the price of heat in February is 15 percent lower and almost 27 percent lower than in January. In the last winter month, a kilowatt hour of heat cost the company’s consumers 7.41 cents (without VAT), at the same time last year – 8.76 cents (without VAT), this January – 7.49 cents (without VAT).

“Changes in outdoor air temperature lead to fluctuations in residents’ heating bills, which are related to the need for heat and its consumption. Since the cold season is slowly coming to an end, less heat is needed to heat homes. In other words, the warmer it is outside, the lower the heating bills,” says Rolandas Baltuonis, CEO of Klaipėdos Energija.

According to the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service, this February was one of the warmest in the last few decades. The average temperature outside was 3 degrees Celsius. This year it was 1.3 degrees warmer than last February. Therefore, for February, residents of a standard 2-room apartment of about 50 square meters in a newly built or completely renovated building should receive an average bill of 30 euros. Meanwhile, the owners of an old, unrenovated house of the same area will receive a higher heating bill of 57 euros on average.

“Klaipėdos energija” draws the attention of consumers that the size of heating bills is also influenced by the habits and behavior of residents, as well as the condition of buildings.
