The eight-person limit will only apply to public events and gatherings, such as sports and cultural events, as the government has no right to ban gatherings in people’s homes.
Schools and restaurants will continue to operate, but the restaurants already stipulate that a maximum of eight people can sit at one table.
The government has also recommended not meeting people outside their households.
Leven warned today that the situation would worsen.
“It will get worse. Do your duty and take responsibility for stopping the spread of the virus,” Leven said. “Don’t go to the gym, don’t go to the library, don’t have parties.”
Last week, the government announced that from November 20 to the end of February, bars and restaurants will no longer be allowed to sell alcohol after 10 p.m.
The media reports that many clubs and bars were crowded over the weekend, with young people taking their last chance to have fun late at night.
Leven said new restrictions are needed because fewer people are now following the recommendations than in the spring.
In the spring, recommendations were enough for most people to stay away and cancel their plans, the prime minister said, adding that this is not the case now.
