As the number of Covid-19 cases increases, France is imposing stricter entry requirements

France will require travelers from several European countries who have not been fully vaccinated to present a negative Covid-19 test within 24 hours, the government said on Saturday, July 17th.

The new requirement will apply to people entering the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Cyprus, Greece and the Netherlands.

The rules will take effect at night on Sunday at midnight, said Prime Minister Jean-Claude in a statement.

Until now, people coming from the UK had to show a negative Covid-19 test within 48 hours.

Immigrants from Spain, Portugal, Cyprus, the Netherlands and Greece were required to present a test result within 72 hours.

People who have been completely vaccinated with one of the vaccines approved by the European Medicines Agency – Pfizer / BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca or Johnson & Johson – will not have to show the test result, the prime minister said.

This exception is due to the fact that “the vaccine is effective against the virus, in particular against its delta variant”, the statement said.

Tunisia, Mozambique, Cuba and Indonesia are on France’s “red list”.

Travelers from red-list countries can only enter France in special cases, and even vaccinated travelers have to spend seven days in self-isolation.-

The new measures have been introduced by several European countries to combat the increase in Covid-19 cases, which is largely explained by the spread of the delta variant of the virus on the continent.

The number of new cases of Covid-19 has also risen in recent weeks in France, reaching almost 11,000 on Friday.

In France, 35.5 million people have received at least one dose of Covid-19, just over half of the population.
