Efficient immediately, July 2, 2024, tariff fee quotas from the Deep and Complete Free Commerce Space (DCFTA) are being reintroduced for imports of eggs and sugar from Ukraine to the EU. The revised Autonomous Commerce Measures (ATMs), that are efficient from 6 June 2024, embody emergency brake for seven agricultural merchandise, which is routinely triggered if the import quantity reaches the common annual import recorded between 1 July 2021 and 31 December 2023.
For eggs and sugar, this common is 23,188.96 tons and 262,652.68 tons, respectively. Article 4 of Regulation 2024/1392 establishes that when these volumes are reached, the Fee has 14 days to reintroduce the related tariff quota from the EU-Ukraine FTAA. For the reason that imports of eggs and sugar from Ukraine from the start of 2024 are already above the volumes set within the tariff quota for the WTO, the extra imports will proceed with the most-favoured-nation (MFN) tariffs.
From January 1, 2025 till June 5, 2025, a brand new tariff quota will likely be launched, corresponding to 5 twelfths of the brink set for activation of the emergency brake. For eggs, this new quota is 9,662.07 tons, and for sugar – 109,438.62 tons.
Ukraine exported to all third international locations a complete of 32,000 tons of egg merchandise in 2022 and 57,000 tons in 2023. Along with the EU, it additionally exports to a number of international locations within the Center East, the Arabian Peninsula, and West Africa.
As for sugar, Ukraine exported a complete of about 181,000 tons in 2022 and 508,000 tons in 2023. From November 2023, Ukraine began exporting to non-EU locations in Europe, in addition to international locations in Africa and the Center East east, europa.eu reported.
