The French public prosecutor has opened an investigation into AS Monaco striker Wissam Ben Yedder, who is accused of rape. The incident is said to have occurred last Monday in the town of Beausoleil, north of Monaco.
The public prosecutor in Nice confirmed to the AFP news agency that “there are two charges of rape, from two victims, against two people”. “We don’t know who the second person accused is,” he said.
According to radio station France Info come the allegations of two women aged 19 and 20. The two would have been raped by Ben Yedder and his younger brother after a night out.
AS Monaco has stated in a response that the club is aware of the matter. “As long as the matter is under judicial review, the club is not in a position to comment.”
Ben Yedder, 32, has been playing for AS Monaco since 2019. He has so far produced 98 goals and 32 assists in 167 appearances for the Ligue 1 club. The nineteen-time French international was previously active at Sevilla and Toulouse.
