“As long as the spirit lasts” – 2024-04-23 14:32:04

The news of recent times has aroused extraordinary emotions in news anchor Kirsi Alm-Siira. At the same time, Kirsi has returned to the decisive crossroads of her own youth.

News anchor Kirsi Alm-Siira, 49, has been telling the public news for years, and even with good intentions, it cannot be said that their content was mostly positive. However, the news of recent times has gotten under Kirsi’s skin in an extraordinary way.

– I’ve had news anxiety for the first time. Such hopelessness, says Kirsi.

He has pondered why right now the news has turned more on emotions.

– The corona era has left its mark on all of us, and after that the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine. Big news events and the uncertainty they bring about the future are somehow in the background for us there, says Kirsi.

The heavy topics of the last few weeks have made Kirs think about her own background.

– Now there is so much talk about the well-being of young people. Or actually from nausea. I have had a youth myself, which has certainly been quite a knife’s edge as to which direction my own life will take.

Among other things, Kirsi was twice expelled from high school. The pain continued more or less until adulthood.

– Sometimes I caught up with normal everyday life, sometimes it was really hard.

Kirsi has thought about what her youth would have been like in this world.

– I grew up in Noormarku, Pori. The things that are available today were not available there. For example, alcohol was the only substance available to me, says Kirsi.

– I always had the basic security of family and loved ones, which on the other hand perhaps gave me the courage to experiment with limits and norms in my subconscious. However, that experiment of limits went completely overboard for me.

Kirsi says that when she was young she had a frenzy of resisting authority. However, his potential did not go unnoticed by adults. Kirsi has vividly remembered the teacher’s words.

– He didn’t talk to me accusingly, but said that “You have everything, don’t spoil it.” He continued that “You can become absolutely anything, except a site plan architect, because mathematics is not your thing.” In her memories, Kirsi goes back to the 7th grade.

The same middle school principal came to congratulate Kirsi when she graduated.

“I’m not funny”

At the beginning of working life, Kirsi found her passion for media, which is known as a competitive field.

– I’ve wanted this dune a lot and I’ve had enormous pressure to succeed, says Kirsi.

At the time, Kirsi used all means to hide her insecurities.

– I’ve imitated others as best I could, looked at what kind of clothes others buy and bought similar ones. When I cut my hair, I got a lot of comments that “Now you look like a news anchor”, Kirsi gives an example of mental images connected to her profession, which are sometimes also confirmed internally.

Kirsi has appeared on TV for 20 years. The long-time news anchor no longer thinks about credibility issues and also knows how to laugh at himself, as for example when he fell off his chair during a live news broadcast.

– My professional self-confidence is very high. And, when it’s on a solid foundation, it gives a lot of leeway, and there’s no need to compartmentalize yourself or search for credibility, says Kirsi.

Last fall, Kirsi made her debut as a host of an entertainment show on MTV’s new channel This is this in the program. Kirsi says that washing felt surprisingly natural to her.

– I’m not really funny, and I can’t make someone laugh on command or according to a script, like actors, for example. My amusement – if any – is, unfortunately, completely unintentional. I like to expose myself to the fact that people don’t necessarily laugh with me, but at me, says Kirsi.

– I can expose myself to the good-natured laughter of others. I treat myself with respect, and laughing doesn’t take anything away from me, Kirsi continues.

Financially significant

In addition to her work as a news anchor, Kirsi does a lot of hosting gigs.

– Financially, it’s quite significant for me.

– I do them on average every two weeks. They are related to different topics, so preparation and familiarization take time. It’s still nice to keep yourself on the map about many things. It would be awful to disappoint someone who hires me to host. I try to be worthy of my salary and always prepare well, says Kirsi.

In addition, Kirsi’s work calendar is rhythmic with gym instruction. He has been making them since he was in high school. Kirsi describes that she does not work in the field of sports for a living, but other reasons draw her to work.

– I’m quite at home in an athletic environment. In self-directing, motivating others feels great.

– I’ve made a decision that as long as I’m in the mood, I’ll direct. For the time being, I do bodypump and heart rate-raising classes. It might be that sometimes we pull a chair trick in the service building, Kirsi laughs.

50 is not the new 30

Kirsi turns 50 in September. In the summer, she heads to Paris with her daughters to celebrate it in advance.

– I read in a women’s magazine that 50 is the new 30. I can say that it really isn’t. I would like to feel physically 30 years old, but you can’t turn back the clock, Kirsi laughs.

– Sometimes I thought that in my fifties I would be wise and steady. It would be nice to be mentally in my fifties and physically in my thirties. Sometimes it feels like it’s going the other way for me, Kirsi sighs.
