“The state of emergency will be extended for another six months. Starting from Feb. 1, the sovereignty of the state will once again be transferred to the commander-in-chief,” said Acting President Myint Swe.
The announcement came as streets were empty and shops closed across the country in protest on the anniversary of the coup. and the Western powers have imposed a new round of sanctions on the generals.
