On March 15, 2002, the club “Depo” opened its doors at 32 Valņu Street, based on the electronic music club “Metro“, which was opened by DJ Guntis Vanags together with a colleague. On October 21, 2024, it was announced that the activity of the club was suspended for an indefinite period due to the change of the owner of the building. What happened and how do we remember the legendary “Depot”?
“This week marks the end of a period of more than 22 years in the history of the Depo music club – the house where the club is located is changing its owner and, as a result, the lease agreement with the club to end”, club representatives announced on Facebook on October 21.
The statement said it was possible to agree a new lease with the new owner, but until then the club had to stop working.
In 2023, the portal TVNET + spoke to the founder of the club Gunti Vanag in an interview. The DJ and entrepreneur talked about the culture of this special place, which has not only been the starting point for many musicians, but also a kind of mecca for representatives of subcultures from all over the world.
For 22 years, these gloomy rooms had their own rules of behavior and “living”. Surprisingly, but in a very friendly atmosphere.
But, every story ends at some point…
