The current Australian Open champion, world number two, Aryna Sabalenka has reached the final of this prestigious tournament!
In the 1/2 finals, the Minsk resident beat Cori Gauff from the USA – 7:6, 6:4. During the first set, the Belarusian led 5:2, but lost the advantage – 6:6. Only in the tiebreaker did Aryna Sabalenka seize the initiative, cope well with her opponent’s serve and manage to win. The second game was held under Arina’s control.
Sabalenka took revenge from Gauff for her defeat in the final of the US Open 2023.
“I concentrated and was ready for the American to move and hit all the balls. I had to be always ready to strike again. Plus your support, guys! The last time I played here, I had almost no support, but today, it’s great. I appreciate it and thank you for the atmosphere, you make this place special for me,” Sabalenka said after the match.
A year earlier, the Belarusian in Melbourne became the winner of the women’s singles, beating Elena Rybakina in the final.
Previously, Victoria Azarenka also won the Australian Open, becoming the best in 2012 and 2013.
