Arvo Pärt once again tops the Klara Top 100

In the previous edition of the Klara Top 100, in February of this year, Arvo Pärt dethroned Giovanni Battista Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater with ‘Spiegel im Spiegel’, which topped the list five years in a row. This autumn, the Estonian composer continues to lead the way, and his ‘Kuus, kuus kallike (Estonian Lullaby)’ is also the strongest climber, from place 100 to place 40. A third composition by Pärt, ‘Fratres’, is on the place 36.

However, the best represented composer remains Johann Sebastian Bach, with fourteen compositions. Just like in the previous edition, the ‘Erbarme Dich’ is from the Matthew Passion on the second place. The ‘Stabat Mater’ drops to 4th place.

Three female composers made their debut in the list this year: Hildegard von Bingen with ‘Caritas abundat’ (place 98), Fanny Mendelssohn with ‘Pianotrio’ (place 69) and the Greek Eleni Karaindrou, who won a Lifetime Achievement at Film Fest Gent. Award, with ‘Eternity and a Day’ (place 88).
