Arve was to tear down the outdoor toilet – the discovery made him call the police

On Saturday, Arve Martin Øverlien was to demolish the old outbuilding at the cabin on Sjusjøen. Built the house including an outdoor toilet.

When he opened the floor, he was surprised by what appeared.

– Father, I thought. What has my grandfather been doing here, says Øverlien to TV 2.

However, he soon realized that it could not be his grandfather’s property.

Inside the garbage bag was a shotgun that had been cut off at both ends. Then Øverlien called the police.

– Very funny

The cabin has been inherited by the family, and has been owned by the family as long as the outbuilding has been there. Øverlien says that no one in the family has seen the weapon before.

– My grandmother used to have a cabin. She was very little criminal, and so am I, says Øverlien.

He says that they have had a break-in at the cabin twice before, but says he doubts that it has anything to do with the weapon.

– It was very funny. If there have been thieves here, they probably do not hide weapons under the outdoor toilet, Øverlien believes.

During both burglaries, the cabin has been empty of people, and the thieves have taken with them TV, alcohol and the like.

May have been lying for 15 years

Øverlien wonders how someone may have had the weapon placed under the floor in the outhouse, but believes it may have been possible from the outside.

– You can remove a stone or something maybe, and get it put in, he says.

He estimates that the weapon may have been there for about 15 years. It was found in a garbage bag with a handle on it, which Øverlien believes indicates that there has not been much left.

According to Øverlien, the police took the weapon with them, with the message that they would destroy it. However, both he and his daughter, Mille Øverlien, are curious about who may have laid the weapon there.

– Special story

– It is a somewhat special story that comes to light when you find a weapon so hidden.

This is what operations manager Terese Bylterud in the Innlandet police district told TV 2 on Saturday night.

– Older weapons can either be sent for further examination by a forensic technician or destroyed. What is being done with this, Ringsaker investigation must answer on Monday, Bylterud continues.

Previously, there was no registration requirement for shotguns. This can create challenges when the police may have to investigate who has owned the weapon.
