Success is the basis of everything in the film industry. Success is the most essential of survival. People behave in two ways when they are successful and when they fail. People will pick up the phone when they call when they are winning. Or call back if you miss the call. But not even picking up the call while it is failing.
At the time of Ramaleela’s success, I could easily reach many people. But when the 21st century failed, that became impossible. After the failure of 21st Century, I had to ruthlessly return three advances that I had given myself to make the film. It was all huge sums of money.
A lot of it was held in my hand even though Ram Leela told me not to. A huge advance was given by the producer. When I asked it back, I asked for some time. I got the reply that I will give it two weeks. Such is the case. It was a huge amount that I had to pay back in two weeks. Anyway, I returned it.
But there are good friends in this field. Anthony Perumbavoor comforted me even when the 21st century failed. Nivin, Tovino and Dileepetan have always comforted me and kept me company. There are such good people.
But the failure cannot be blamed on those who neglected it. That may be their situation. They will not treat us as we treated them. We cannot insist that it should be so.
