Artwork Beaufort temporarily removed – De Standaard

The artwork Stranded, a series of cast glass sculptures on Bredene beach, has been temporarily removed. It is part of the art manifestation Beaufort, in which art is given the sea as a backdrop.

Just before the start of Beaufort, two parts of Stranded were damaged. Presumably vandals tried to steal them or pull them out of the sand. In consultation with the artist, the Italian Rossella Biscotti, the work will be relocated in Bredene. It will be a place with more social control, and it will also become more firmly established.

The triennial Beaufort manifestation maps out a route along all coastal municipalities, from Knokke-Heist to De Panne. This year’s theme is global warming and sea level rise. Stranded’s glass panels take the form of oil stains that wash up on the beach and form a crater landscape of transparent jellyfish.
