“At the heart of the album is the issue of the artist’s freedom and reflections on the interaction between the musician and the music industry. It was important for me to emphasize the underground or independent music aspect – I have heard that being an underground musician in Latvia is I don’t think so. also, more precisely, an attempt to write such a manifesto: somewhere in the flames of the album you can see Vladimir Nabokov’s novel “Dar” and Federico Fellini’s film “8½”, but “Yes” is my story – the story of hip-hop in me and me in hip-hop ” says Arturs Skutelis.
The album “Yes” was recorded during the past year in several Latvian cities, most of the recordings were made in Riga, in the studio “msonic Baltic”. The album was edited by Jānis Šmēdiņš (FAKTS) in Jelgava, in the studio “PrimeTime Records”.
Participants in the recording of the album: Ūga (vocals), BUSH (vocals), xanthikarium (vocals), Vilhelms Carlson (vocals), Alise Golovacka (flute), Dita Frīdenberga (saxophone), Mārtiņš Vilnītis (guitar), Gatis Ziema (gita) Vinvins (scratches). The following musicians have worked on the album: NiklāvZ, Shenfi, Oriole, Oskars Iljins, Rihards Strauss, Noitro, Robis GKW and Arturs Skutelis.
The visual design of the album was created by Emīls Kālis. The cover of the album uses an excerpt from Peter Bregel’s Elder’s (1525? -1569) painting “Children’s Games” (1560).
One of the songs on the album contains an excerpt from a 2004 interview of Rolexus, a member of the association “Runu Zāle”, at the hip-hop festival “Tre-Fira”.
It has already been reported that the presentation of the album “Yes” and a big concert will take place in the evening of May 20 in the concert hall “Palladium”.
