The NBA 2020 draft will take place on November 18. Kurucs had applied for this year’s NBA draft, but even after his withdrawal, he has the opportunity to try his luck in one of the following years.
The 20-year-old Vitoria “Baskonia” basketball player Kurucs has gone to the court this season in five ULEB Euroleague games, where he has spent an average of three minutes and 22 seconds on the court, but has not scored any points. In the Spanish Premier League (ACB), he has an average of 1.4 points, 0.9 assists and 0.7 rebounds in nine matches on average in nine minutes and seven seconds.
Last season he became the winner of two national championships. After the termination of the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League, Kuruts, who represented “VEF Rīga” at that time, was honored to be the winner of the Latvian championship. He then returned to the Baskonia team, where he became ACB champion in the summer.
In February, the basketball player made his debut in the Latvian adult national team in the qualifying tournament of the European Championship, where he scored an average of 6.0 points in two matches, won 1.5 rebounds and made 1.0 assists. Kurucs has represented Latvian youth teams of different ages and last year became the European U-18 vice-champion in Riga.
Kurucam has a contract with “Baskonia” club for two more seasons. He joined the Spanish unit in 2015.
Kuruce’s peer Artūrs Žagars decided not to participate in this year’s draft already in the spring.
