artists perform at home to make ends meet

In a private Parisian room, that day, an acoustic performance at home begins: a few guitar notes, and the decor no longer matters. For the past few months, Laurence M and Joël Gombert have been performing at private homes to earn a living. The couple tries to make their spectators travel far from the health crisis. “We’re just going to take a still trip”, announces the singer to her hosts, who have invited some friends. All wear the mask and a maximum capacity of 9 people is respected. An enchanted break for 200 euros and a live show for over an hour. “It feels so good to get together, to find artists, friends, it’s a lot of emotion”, confides Delphine, the host of the concert.

Laurence and Joël do five private concerts a month. The couple is not intermittent of the spectacle, and since the health crisis, their financial means are reduced. “Sometimes it’s difficult, I fall asleep every night with the anguish of telling myself that I have to pay the rent”, says Laurence. They too have tried live concerts, on the internet, like many artists. “You finish a song in front of your computer screen, and nothing happens”, concludes Joël. They hope to soon find the hall of their small neighborhood theater, where they were still performing last March, when the first confinement was announced.
