The most significant solo exhibition of the painter Sigita Daugule “Painting” has been opened at the art station “Dubulti”. It features large-format oil paintings with everyday drawings and images of the author’s imagination, as well as the artist’s interpretation of Aspazija’s cats.
While in the city, study drawings or inscriptions on house walls and fences? Painter Sigita Daugule pays attention to them.
“Absolutely everything I paint is somewhere, I didn’t think of anything, it just is,” says the artist. “I did all the work for this exhibition, I only worked on this for a year, it’s made in one breath.”
In her expressive painting, Daugule combines flashes of everyday moments or events with personal feelings.
From the thick, expressive layers of color, the childish and tragic at the same time.
Inga Šteimane, the director of the Dubulti art station, the curator of the exhibition, and an art historian, remarks: is ready, he writes in a very broad context. Sigita Daugule is beautifully recorded in a large abstract art movement that began in the middle of the 20th century. ”
On the upper floor of the Art Station, Sigita Daugule’s dedication to Aspazija’s cats can be seen, influenced by the exposition of the nearby Aspazija house with projections of many Aspazija cats. Since they are all in the afterlife, Daugule mainly paints dead cats.
“The upstairs hall is different, there is more Sigita’s temperament to tell anecdotes, which she also knows well. Her art is made up of drama and anecdote in a very controversial mix, and then there is more anecdote at the top, ”says Inga Šteimane.
The exhibition is located in the only professional exhibition hall in Europe, which is located in a functioning station, so the works of art can be viewed every day free of charge.
