“Like many people today, I feel the need to reconstruct and seek solace in thoughts about home, belonging and the future. These works serve as a suggestion to turn to immediate reality as the starting point of this search. I hope that it will also help someone,” reveals the artist.
Olia Katkova’s creative practice is focused on dismantling and artistic reconstruction of everyday objects and spaces, with the aim of studying their context, function, form, meaning and emotions. This is the way the artist processes personal history, turning it into an archive of events and things without classifying them the important ones and unimportant ones, but looking for mutual connection and common connection with other people’s experiences. She selects objects that tell subtle stories, often related to ideas of home, childhood, presence and absence, where absence often means loss.
