An artist fell from a great height during a performance by Christmas Circus Haarlem on Wednesday evening. The victim was taken to hospital with injuries, a police spokesman said.
The spokesman has not yet been able to say how the artist is and how serious the injuries are. The artist is conscious, reports the circus in a statement Facebook.
“The Fallen Artist is getting all the help he needs now and our crew sympathize, just like you, with our heartwarming audience. This risk is part of the circus. However, we sincerely apologize for this unfortunate event which sadly you witnessed.”
The accident happened around 8.45pm. There were about a thousand spectators in the circus tent at the time. Rescuers took the audience out.
Among the spectators were also many children who saw the person fall, the spokesman said. “This is very intense to see, so by the police we advise you to contact your doctor if they receive any complaints after this.” The police also made victim support available.
The Christmas circus has been in the Burgemeester Reinaldapark in Haarlem-East since 22 December. There would be performances until January 8, including with Hans Klok. The shows for the next few days will continue as scheduled.
The watch said to Show news that he didn’t see the accident happen because he was changing. According to the magician, it happened during an act with a large spinning wheel. “There are a lot of accidents,” he told the TV show. The victim, a male acrobat, fell “from about fifty feet,” according to Klok.
