Artis Dvarionas, the vocalist of the former group “RAP”, returns with the protest song “Hollow” after a 12-year break, whose new stage name will be Lapsene, which is quite in line with his visual image.
“I had originally planned to present my new music project to the audience at the end of this year, but with the onset of Russian aggression in Ukraine, I should not hesitate any longer,” says Artis Dvarionas. It should be reminded that at one time he became known for working as a member of the rock group “Reptiles with Birds”, later – “RAP”, but then together with the former “Double Faced Eels” guitarist Reini Briģis briefly noted in the project “Thus.” For many years now, Artis has been one of the leading people on Radio SWH, both as the host of the Top 40 and Braucamlaiks programs and as one of the leaders on the radio station’s music front in general.
Artis wrote the debut song “Hollow” in collaboration with the author of the lyrics, Igo, whose confrontation with the aggressive eastern neighbor has been unfamiliar since the Awakening in the late 1980s, and whose musical collaboration resulted in the hit “Life without stopping” ten years ago.
“The song ‘Hollow’ may resonate in different senses, but it is mainly a message of protest calling for action and an end to the totalitarian regime beyond our eastern borders,” said Artis. His new song is much more electronic than it used to be in RAP times, maybe a little more so on its way, but musically quite angry and, most importantly, with Art’s strong, specific vocal handwriting.
The already mentioned Reinis Briģis as a co-producer of the studio, Reinis Kārkliņš (audio post-production) and Eduards Zagainovs-Weinbrants (video version) have participated in the creation of the song.
With the stage name Lapsene Artis, he intends to compose, arrange and produce the music himself within the framework of this project, attracting various authors of the text. “This event is special to me because for the first time I will realize myself within the framework of a solo project, composing, arranging and producing my own music, attracting various authors. It should be mentioned that this is not a one-song project and the protest song “Hollow” is like a starting application for a wider and more far-reaching musical goal, “adds Artis.
