The area is relatively close to Kharkov, the second largest city in war-torn Ukraine.
In a statement on Telegram, the governor said “there was gunfire from Ukraine” which exploded in one village.
“The injured people received all the assistance they needed, and details regarding their condition will be released at a later date,” Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said in a statement.

“For the safety of the people of Zhuravlyovka and Nekhoteevka, the Belgorod district administration has imposed a state of emergency in these two villages,” he said.

In response to the incident, the chairman of the Russian Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin instructed his subordinates to “carefully investigate the circumstances of the incident, take complete steps to identify all those responsible.”
