Artificial intelligence has solved a problem that scientists could not cope with for half a century

AlphaFold (this is what AI is called) spent only a few days trying to predict the structure of a protein with atomic precision, reported on the official blog of the DeepMind team. Thanks to this breakthrough, scientists will finally be able to predict how proteins fold into three-dimensional shapes, which, in turn, will allow understanding the formation of certain diseases and will enable the creation of “designer drugs.”

Recall that earlier AI from DeepMind was able to become the first to beat a human in chess, Go, Starcraft II and other complex games. At the same time, even then the developers noted that their goal was not to beat people, but to work on more serious issues.
