Artificial ice rinks start the winter season

City of Bern | October 3, 2024

Because the Ka-We-De is being renovated, only the Weyermannhaus artificial ice rink and the PostFinance Arena are open in winter. They start their season on Saturday or at the end of October and have to plan well due to the bottlenecks.

In Bern, the Weyermannhaus artificial ice rink starts its winter season next Saturday. The PostFinance Arena will be open from October 26th, as the city of Bern announced on Wednesday. For the next two winter seasons, only these two artificial ice rinks will be available to the public. The Ka-We-De is being renovated and is expected to reopen at the start of the 2026/2027 ice season.

An occupancy plan was drawn up for the available ice surfaces. The city announced that this should ensure the clubs’ games and training operations and at the same time ensure a maximum of free ice skating and hockey games for the public. In the Weyermannshaus, both ice rinks will be iced at the same time for the first time at the start of the season. Previously this was done in stages.
