Decision Mikel Arteta shift Aaron Ramsdale with David Raya at Arsenal be in the spotlight. Former Gunners goalkeeper David Seamanto the point of wondering.
Raya is increasingly trusted to be Arsenal’s main goalkeeper, displacing Ramsdale. The loan player from Brentford has continued to play as a starter in the last three matches.
After keeping a clean sheet for Arsenal against Everton, Raya was again selected by Arteta when they beat PSV Eindhoven 4-0 in the Champions League, and most recently drew 2-2 against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League last weekend. The 28 year old player has recorded two clean sheets.
Arteta’s decision to play Raya instead of Ramsdale was in the spotlight. Understandably, Ramsdale performed well last season by leading the London Cannon to finish second in the Premier League, and recorded 15 matches without conceding a goal.
This was also highlighted by David Seaman. Former goalkeeper Arsenal it’s a wonder why Aaron Ramsdale until suggested Mikel Arteta.
“What he does is what he talks about. He makes sure they all get playing time. We have to wait and see how it goes,” said David Seamanto Mail Sport.
“Back then, I didn’t know if I would like it. I sure did [Peter] Schmeichel wouldn’t like it either! But it was different then, 20 years ago. The game has changed, and Mikel is trying something new.”
“Will this work? I don’t know. I’m still confused as to why Aaron was left on the bench,” he said.
Seaman believes that Ramsdale’s situation is the result of Arsenal recruiting Raya, who is also experienced. Even so, the goalkeeper who led Arsenal to win the Premier League twice is still confused about Ramsdale being shifted.
“It’s been a strange summer. Aaron did brilliantly last season. He was voted goalkeeper in the Players’ Player of the Season Team, so how good he is!” added Seaman.
“Then, coming into the season and playing five or six games, it must have been quite a shock for him. But he has to get over it. Mikel has to get over it, and make sure he keeps Aaron happy.”
“This is the situation they are facing because they brought in another very experienced goalkeeper,” he said David Seaman.
