London –
Manager Arsenal Mikel Arteta defended the action he took against Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Arteta protests having been cruel to Aubameyang.
Aubameyang was removed from the Arsenal captaincy some time ago. The decision was taken following a disciplinary breach by the Gabon international striker.
Not only that, Aubameyang was also left out of the Arsenal squad and has missed the last four matches. He was also ‘exiled’ by not training with the first team.
Mikel Arteta denies acting like a dictator by freezing Aubameyang. He just wants players to be fully committed to the club.
“I didn’t build my power by being a dictator or being cruel. I only asked for one thing: respect and commitment,” Arteta said as quoted by Antara. ESPN.
“At this level, if I don’t get it, I will leave because that is the least I can ask for. I’m sorry but I would expect that from anyone who works for the club. Especially from myself. And the day that I don’t do that, I’ll just go out and go and do something else. As plain as that.”
“To be successful you have to be passionate about something and if you want to represent a club with this history, that’s the minimum standard you have to bring.”
“I’m not going to ask anyone to put the ball in the top corner every time they kick it, but I’m going to ask them to do the right thing every day for this club. That’s for sure,” said Arteta.
