Channel9.id-Jakarta. NASA plans to return to the moon after 50 years on Apollo 13. But the mission has to go through several steps.
The United States space agency or NASA plans to launch a flight mission to the moon with Artemis 3 flight in 2025. This mission to the moon is the first time since the Apollo 13 mission more than 50 years ago.
NASA has signed a collaboration with one of Elon Musk’s companies, Space X. The signing includes the use of a space shuttle from Space X. Currently the process is reportedly developing a flight mechanism with a human crew.
The Artemis 3 mission is a continuation of the flight of the unmanned Artemis 1 spacecraft and Artemis 2 which carries the task of launching the Space Launch System (SLS). Previously, Artemis 1 launched at 01.47 local time in 2022 and landed back on December 9, 2022.
NASA said Artemis 2 will depart from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, United States. Artemis 2 is expected to go into space in November 2022. Mike Sarafin, Artemis mission manager, said that the Artemis 2 mission would be unique because this flight would be a flight with a human crew. “Artemis 2 will be able to test the SLS device and the capacity of the Orion aircraft in deep space,”. As previously mentioned, the successful piloting of the life support system should be able to support astronauts on longer duration missions for Artemis 3.
The crew of the Artemis 2 ship are said to be traveling 6400 miles beyond the far side of the Earth’s closest astronomical object. From this side, which is called the vantage (observation) point, the crew can see the landscape of the planet Earth and the moon. Overall the duration of the mission will be estimated at 10 days.
Reported from Space.com, the crew for the Artemis 3 mission has yet to be announced. In addition, the launch date, 2025, is also said to be subject to change. This is because the launch of aircraft number 3 will depend heavily on the achievements of the 2 previous flights.
