In 2016, Artem Harutyunyan (32) won bronze at the Rio Olympics. After that, the boxer switched to the professionals. His big dream: boxing in the USA – and becoming world champion!
The first part is now coming true: The undefeated Universum man (12 wins/7 knockouts) will fight Frank “The Ghost” Martin (28/USA) in Las Vegas on April 22nd. Harutyuyan is ranked ninth in the prestigious WBC lightweight (61.2 kilos) with Martin (17 wins/12 KOs) also undefeated in sixth. The winner moves to third place – and is within striking distance of a world championship fight!
“I’m pretty excited and excited,” says the Hamburger before the fight of his life. “There will be a lot coming my way.”
Harutyunyan boxes in the pre-program of the mega fight between Gervonta Davis (28) and Ryan Garcia (24). The T-Mobile Arena will be filled with 20,000 fans. “That’s something crass. I want to present myself and show who I am,” says Harutyunyan, who will be traveling to the United States for the first time.
The father of the family does not feel any pressure. “I’m preparing like I always do, just started sparring earlier. The only problem is that I haven’t boxed for almost a year.” In June 2022 he defeated Humberto Galindo (23/Mexico) in Hamburg. After that there were no suitable opponents at first, then Harutyunyan had to miss a chance in February because of a stubborn cold…
But it was worth waiting. “It took a lot of time. Hopefully this will now be my ticket to the big fights.”
